FAQs

How much does a custom guitar cost?

While we have traditionally taken on a wide variety of custom builds, Chaos Guitars has shifted its primary focus to high-end repairs and professional modifications. We are currently dedicated to providing the best service for the instruments you already love.

However, the "Chaos" hasn't stopped—we still have a passion for unique builds. Our goal moving forward is to design and craft 1-2 full custom guitars per year of our own choosing. These exclusive builds will be made available for purchase on our For Sale page once completed. Because these are one-of-a-kind projects, pricing starts at $1,000.00 and varies based on the specific components and finish.

How can I get my guitar in for service?

If you are local to the area and want to drop off a guitar for repair or a custom setup, the best way to start is by visiting our Home page. You can use the Text/Call button found there to reach us directly. Please include your name and a brief description of the work you need so we can get back to you quickly to schedule a time.

If you are shipping a guitar to the shop, please contact us first to notify us of the incoming shipment and the specific work requested. While shipping isn't always cost-effective for minor fixes, we regularly receive instruments from loyal customers across the country who want their custom builds serviced by the original builder.

Do you do paint work?

Yes, we absolutely do. unfortunatly due to the high volume of repair work and a backlog of paint work, major repaints are on hold until further notice

Can I contact you to find out what’s wrong with my guitar?

While we do our best to answer questions, we are a small, high-volume shop dedicated to active bench work. To help you get answers immediately, we have developed an extensive Learning Path right here on our site. It covers everything from Basic Guitar Care and Seasonal Maintenance to String Selection and how to know when you need a setup.

We encourage you to check those guides first—there is a good chance the answer you're looking for is already there! For specific repair quotes or service scheduling that isn't covered in our guides, the best way to reach us is via the Text/Call button on our Home page.

Can I trade one or two of my guitars in for a discount on a custom or service?

Generally, we do not take trade-ins for service work or custom builds. However, we are always open to exceptional instruments that align with our shop’s needs. If you have a high-value piece that you believe would be a "win-win" for the shop, feel free to reach out via the Text/Call button on our Home page with clear photos and details.

Support a Good Cause: If you have a guitar that is no longer being played, consider our Charity Build Program. We accept donated instruments and parts to refurbish and build into "Charity Players," with proceeds going to support local causes. It’s a great way to clear out gear while helping the community.

How long does a typical repair or setup take?

Turnaround times vary based on our current bench volume. Typically, routine setups are completed within 5-7 business days, while complex modifications or wiring jobs may take longer. We will provide a more accurate estimate once we have the instrument in hand.

Do you offer "while you wait" services?

To maintain our high standard of quality, we do not offer "while you wait" appointments. Every instrument that enters the shop deserves our full, undivided attention without the pressure of a ticking clock.

What brands or types of guitars do you work on?

We service all major brands and types of stringed instruments, including electric and acoustic guitars, basses, and mandolins. Whether it’s a vintage heirloom or a modern workhorse, we treat every instrument with the same level of professional care.

Can I provide my own parts for a modification?

Yes, you can provide your own pickups or hardware. However, please note that we cannot offer a warranty on customer-supplied parts. We also stock high-quality components and are happy to make recommendations if you’re looking for a specific tone or feel.
